Allie + Nick Quirky, Neurodivergent Wedding at Unique Pittsburgh Venue This Is Red
When I first spoke to Allie + Nick about their goals and dreams for a wild, alternative wedding at This is Red in Pittsburgh, PA, I was left starry eyed and giddy with excitement. Not only were their ideas super inspiring, their vibe as people was f*cking AMAZING.
They were one of the first couples to contact me after I discovered and announced my late diagnosis autism, and each of them were forthcoming about their own neurodivergent brains. This was actually super exciting, because not only did we both feel appreciated and understood by the other, but it gave me the chance to make a huge difference in their lives.
Weddings in general are terribly stressful. 150 guests? 20 guests? 5 guests? 300 guests? Believe it or not, any number of guests beyond just the couple creates a dynamic that will turn into some level of difficulty, stress, anxiety.
Which, by the way, is why eloping is seriously awesome. If you’re an engaged neurodivergent and/or autistic couple, or just someone who wants the day to truly be about you and your partner, reach out asap and I’ll be thrilled to create an amazing experience for you. Ok end rant.
Since Allie + Nick hired me - a wedding photographer who is also actually autistic / neurodivergent - I was able to look out for their needs all day and make sure their experience didn’t go from being one of the most important of all time to something too difficult, stressful, and anxiety inducing to enjoy.
I make sure to act as an advocate for all my couples, but I have a huge soft spot and excitement for working with fellow rainbow brains.
And rainbow brained they are!
This couple is seriously everything you could ever want in a client / subject.
They’re adorable, have tattoos, love to laugh, do literally anything you ask, they’re amazing at being dramatic and Wes Anderson-esque - they even have the CUTEST freaking kitties.
Best of all, I have the honor to keep them in my life as the most wonderful friends.
So while documenting the wedding of these two was definitely a little chaotic, as is every day for us neurodivergents, it was an absolute dream come true.
Allie, Nick - I love you both so freaking much.
